Identification of prepaid cards: Proximus helps its customers identify themselves

As from early December, the legislation requires users of new Belgian prepaid cards and existing users to identify themselves. Proximus helps its customers and offers them various simple identification methods. Proximus also offers an alternative, Mobilus FullControl, a tariff plan which combines the advantages of a subscription with total control over one’s budget.

Who needs to identify himself?

The legislation on the identification of prepaid cards will soon be published in the Belgian Official Gazette. As a result, new prepaid cards will only be activated and usable once the user has identified himself. To help its customers, Proximus offers different quick and easy identification methods.

Existing prepaid customers who have not yet identified themselves will receive several SMS’s in the coming weeks inviting them to use the method of their choice. If they do no identify themselves, the cards of non-identified customers will be "deactivated". Incoming or outgoing calls, text messages, data usage or any other type of communication will then no longer be possible. Any credit still on the “deactivated” card will not be lost, since the customer can identify himself later to reactivate the card, provided it has not yet expired (expiration date = 12 months after the last top-up).

Four methods of identification

Proximus makes every effort to ensure that new and existing customers can identify themselves quickly and easily. They can choose any of the following methods:

• Online via our Proximus website www.proximus.be/identify: here, the customer will have the choice to identify himself:
  • with his electronic identity card, providing he has an e-ID reader and the card's PIN code;
  • with a Bancontact-card, topping up for the amount of their choice from €1;
  • via MyProximus, where he can identify prepaid cards under his existing account.
• With his smartphone via the MyProximus app available on Android, iOS and Windows, under “My Profile”.
• By text message: a customer with a Proximus mobile subscription can also identify one or several prepaid cards of his family members (e.g. for his children) in his name, by simply sending a text to the toll-free number 8804 with the key word "IDENT" followed by the phone number of the prepaid card entered twice (i.e. "IDENT 04XXXXXXXX 04XXXXXXXX"). This card will then be registered in the name of the person who made the request.
• In a Proximus Center: the customer must simply provide an identification document. His Pay&Go card will be identified and activated directly in the shop.

Via the web page www.proximus.be/identify, Proximus provides all the necessary information and identification methods, including explanatory videos. The customer will also be able to consult the changes to the Pay&Go conditions on this page.

As of January, customers who haven't done so already will be invited via text to identify themselves using one of the methods suggested above. Customers don't have to wait to be invited and can identify themselves as of now.

Mobilus FullControl: the advantage of a subscription without going over one’s budget
