Born and raised in Antwerp, Koen Kennis (1967) began his career in the private sector, where he held various technical and strategic leadership positions, including at Stork Asset Management Solutions and ESCI. He led significant transformation projects in industrial maintenance, asset management, and technological implementation. This experience has provided him with in-depth expertise in process improvement, digital systems, and corporate governance.

Since 2013, he has been the first alderman of the City of Antwerp. In the new legislature that started in 2025, he is responsible for finance, mobility, heritage, tourism, and commerce. He leverages his private sector experience to support the strategic development of the city and enhance its economic appeal. Koen Kennis is also active in various boards of leading public and semi-public institutions. He is, among others, chairman of the board of PMV, vice-chairman of Fluvius, director at Lantis, and at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges.

Koen Kennis is an industrial engineer in electricity-electronics (University of Antwerp) and has completed additional training in leadership and management at the Vlerick Business School and the TIAS School for Business and Society. With his combined experience from the private and public sectors, he is committed to the energy transition, urban development, strategic governance in Flanders, and sustainable mobility. On the latter subject, he wrote the book “Iedereen Morgen Mobiel – Pleidooi voor mobirealisme in Antwerpen en Vlaanderen” in 2024.
