Proximus to apply new social rate as of March 1st
On the 1st of March 2024, the new social rate for telecom will take effect. Federal Telecom Minister Petra De Sutter has reached an agreement with the government and operators in this regard. Proximus too will be offering the social rate: entitled customers will be able to get a Proximus Internet subscription for 19 euros per month and a pack combining Internet and TV for 40 euros per month.
New rate, new system
On 1 March, the new social rate will take effect.
The new system does not consist of a discount on the commercial rate, but consists of two separate formulas:
- Social Internet offer: 50% off installation, 150 GB, 30 Mbps download speed and 4 Mbps upload speed for €19/month.
- Social offer combining Internet and TV: 50% off installation, 150 GB, 30 Mbps download speed, 4 Mbps upload speed and the full TV experience for €40/month.
Both packages are available on copper as well as fiber connections from Proximus. Scarlet and Mobile Vikings no longer offer social rates.
Who is eligible?
The eligibility criteria for the two packages have been extended. The FPS Economy will inform citizens through the website www.offreinternetsociale.be (FR) and www.sociaalinternetaanbod.be (NL).
Those eligible can visit a Proximus shop, contact the Proximus contact center or surf to proximus.be/social-rate. Thanks to an integrated and automated solution, shop and call center agents will be able to check through the FPS Economy's systems whether the customer is eligible for these new social offers as soon as the order is encoded. To prevent fraud or abuse and ensure transparency, the FPS Economy will check every six months the situation of everyone eligible for the social rate.
For customers who do not qualify, the Scarlet offer may be a solution. With an Internet offer starting at 23 euros per month and a pack with TV starting at 42 euros per month, Scarlet offers affordable products and services for consumers looking for a basic Internet, mobile data or telephony offer.
The new social rate aiming to make telecom offerings accessible to financially vulnerable people, is fully in line with our ambition to contribute to a digitally inclusive society. Proximus takes this matter to heart and, as a major operator, we are pleased to be able to play a role in this.
